Rocket Pooch

Hi,

Just to let you know I finally got round to plugging the SAC8 onto a MOG Adapter to an EOS zoom lens.

Pointing it down the garden it worked really well with the 28-80mm zoom, 28-50mm gave exceptional depth of field and was very very easy to focus, 80mm was not as easy to focus, but ok.

80-300mm ok but the weight of the lens was not going to make things very easy, id suggests not using this configuration due to the weight of the lens.

500mm mirror, worked but because of the flat contrast clouds around I could not focus very well on anything apart from a pigeon's head at the end of the garden, approx. 90' away

Just to let you know through the LX90 with a 26mm eyepiece I could look into its eye's.

The field of view was quite amazing at 40mm (I estimate about 6-8 moon widths) and I can't wait to give it a go, if only the clouds would go away   Watch this space, literally.

I thought you were gardening this weekend - sounds like you've been playing!

Seriously though it'll be great to see some wide FOV shots with the 50mm - possibly whole constellations in one image?

I've been doing a bit more soldering although, not enough - 1004 probably 35% complete.... Just back from pub so that's knocked soldering on the head for rest of today - just don't trust my hand to be steady enough...

cheers,  John.

Hi John,

I stacked six frames taken with a 28mm EOS lens at 15 second with the SAC8.  No IR or LPR so there's a bit of bloat on the image.

JohnP

That's certainly wide angle - Coathanger looks great - You'll be able to get some great constellation shots.

Chris,
It's nice to see some wide angle stuff again.
Very nice shot of the coat hanger. Have you thought of trying to get some shots of the clusters in Cass?

Rocket Pooch

Not yet because of the SAC, but I did do a couple of shots in Cygnus, there's some great stuff in there, I'll out them up on the web this weekend.  There's a brilliant cluster in there against the milky way.

I have a big problem with the setup, the fact I can't use the LPR or IR filter because of the way the adaptor is built; therefore, I'm  not be able to bring out a lot of the interesting nebula in the areas I've looked at i.e. California and Vail nebulas easily.  But I'm thinking of a workaround for the problem if I can get it right I'll be able to use these and other filters, and then I'll have some fun.

Also periodic error is not an issue with a 28mm lens
