Assorted things are going tits up with my laptop.

If I installed hyperos would it be feasible to copy the OS to a new partition then uninstall everything except OS and astro stuff, then do a fresh install on the original partition.

I can't face doing a complete install of everything  :(

yup you can do it that way.

Create x number of partitions. Obviously big enough to copy over your current partition.

install hyperos

copy over your system
and then in the new system uninstall all the junk you dont need.

Personally I would do what you dont want to do.

Install the os afresh. ok it takes a while, but you have a totaly clean install, make sure you install all the drivers as well, sound, graphics ect.

Make a back up of this system and then next time you can install the os in a couple of mins.
Also use this backup to copy over to your new systems.

Then install the software you want into each system and once all the software is installed back that up.

In a nut shell. what you want to do.

1) resize current partition and then make new partiton so that you can  hold your current disk size.
2) Install Hyperos into first partiton
3) Copy partition over using hyperos
4) Change to new partition & Let hyperos do its bits
5) Start uninstalling the junk.

My prefered way Takes a little longer but is better in the long run.

1) resize current partition and then make new partitons into minimum 30 gig sizes.
2) Install hyperos.
3) boot to new partition
4) Install Windows (clean)
5) Install all needed drivers (graphics ect, but not your cameras ect.)
6) Backup this install (Totally clean install with drivers)
7) Copy this install to the other partitions
8) Boot to each partition and separately install the software you want.
9) Back up the current partition when you have finished installing the software.

The beauty of hyperos is if you get a virus infection in one system you can switch to the other and then remove it from the first one.

Also if you find your system is bogged down you can reinstall the original software and start again in mins.

A couple of things.

a) Use one of the other partitions as your Mydocument folder and then change the Mydocuments to point to that folder before you duplicate it.
b) Set the paging file for the operating system to also use the same partition as the mydocuments.

I've seen you do that in committee meetings too...

And complicated speakers at meetings...

Like when I point out the fire exits.

Tried HyperOS (several times) - failed  :(

Laptop now set up with triple boot to XP with "My Docs" and OE "store" folder moved to separate partition.

All working OK so far

Quotewhat failed??

I did.

Somehow some drivers would not transfer over into new partitions and I couldn't re-install them.
.NET refused to work and/or install
Couple of programs refused to install
Each time I switched system "quicksys" ?  stopped responding.

Quite likely I did something wrong but I've got a similar system set up now and it all works
