High Elms Public Events

These are the Public Outreach events we are holding at High Elms.  The May event is our normal observing evening so no need to book if you're a member.  Please do come if you can.

APRIL
Sat 12th Solar Astronomy
2:30pm Meet at The Nature Centre, High Elms.
Join members of Orpington Astronomical Society for a short talk
followed by looking at the Sun through a special telescope. See sunspots and watch prominances as they actually occur.  Suitable for children. Bring a digital camera to take pictures through the telescope. Tea and coffee provided. Booking essential, please call BCP on 01689 862815

Sat 12th Moon Watch
7:00pm Meet at the Nature Centre, High Elms.
Join members of Orpington Astronomical Society for a short talk
followed by looking at the moon through a telescope.  Suitable for children. Please wear warm clothes and shoes and bring a digital camera to take pictures through the telescope.

Tue 6th The Sun, Moon & Planets
6:00pm Meet at The Nature Centre, High Elms.
Join members of Orpington Astronomical Society on one of their observing evenings.  Watch the Sun set through a special Solar telescope and then the Moon and planets Mercury, Saturn and Mars as they rise into the evening.  Suitable for children. Please wear warm clothes and shoes and bring a digital camera to take pictures through the telescope.

Fri 1st Solar Eclipse
9:30am Meet at The Nature Centre, High Elms.
The UK experiences a partial eclipse of the Sun today. Join members of Orpington Astronomical Society for a short talk followed by looking at the Sun through a special telescope. Watch the eclipse as it actually occurs and see sunspots and prominances on its surface.  Suitable for children. Bring a digital camera to take pictures through the telescope.

Hi All

Unfortunately High Elms have decided to cancel the Moon watch event on 12th April Sat Evening as they have only had two bookings to date.  Not much we can do about this as they have to employ staff etc to open.  I am of course disappointed, especially as we had 24 at the last one.



The Solar Watch in the afternoon will still go ahead. We have 11 confirmed bookings for that.
