Artificial Aurora

An 'international artist' has promised to create an artificial aurora over London ie shining bright lights at the sky. It isn't clear precisely how far out this obliteration of the night sky will be visible.

It is very kind but I don't remember being asked.

More and more of this stuff is encroaching on our night skies.  There us also an Artistic display going on in Norfolk I think at the moment.   I think this is it:

Any laser displays, if they're shining up into the sky, would need CAA approval because they'd pose a risk to pilots, so I'd guess that these displays will be using lights shining horizontally so as to avoid affecting either aircraft above or the general public below. Hopefully the effects will be well localised...
