Article in the Kent Online:

"Woodchurch, High Halden and Dungeness are revealed as some of the best places in the south east to see the stars."

"Another stargazer, Mark Shelley, moved to High Halden last year after becoming frustrated with the glare of urban Sidcup."

Plus a couple of my images

Mick,

You'll be just within that dark crescent.
Tuesnoad and Rother Valley campsites also fall within it.

I have no planned TV appearances!  But I'll sell you an autograph for a tenner.

That's great Mark. It's also good to see light pollution in the public eye too.

No, what I meant was - It's a mile to the nearest pub  :(

A fuller version of the story is in the 26 Jan printed edition of the Kentish Express (the Ashford and the Tenterden editions) on pages 18-19.
You can see thumbnails of it online if you go here and select the correct edition:

It also features another local astro-imager, Steve Wellstead.

This time there's actually a plug for the OAS!

I measured my new front door to the pub door two nights ago, it was 27 paces.  This is within the critical limit of 30 paces for serious drinking astro photography!

I hope the pub is not surrounded by 1000W floodlights  :o

It is healthier to be mutton dressed as lamb, than mutton dressed as mutton!

Bloody hell Chris - that means you could probably actually start imaging & then take your wireless laptop to the pub with you & drink beer all night whilst Teamviewed in.. How cool would that be.... :-)

Fay

Don't encourage him, John. it could be worse, it could be Mick with the pub that near!!!!!!!
