Hi all,

I wondered what filters for CCD Photography I should ask santa to get me?

I was thinking of the following: -

  Infra Red
  Contrast
  Nebula HA

The only thing is I was thinking of Baarder filters because I don't want to break Santa's bank.

They seem ok both price wise and performance wise.  But as usual I thought I'd ask the OAS if you have any thoughts?

Happy x-mas

HI
I use Lumicron Ha filter, it should be used with a IR Block. But for £50 for a 2" filter was a good buy. Lumicron is now run by Parkes and I haven't heard any feedback on their filters. For IR Block I use Astronomik http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://www.astronomik.com/english/enghome.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dwww.gerd.neumann.net%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8 and have been pleased. I haven't used Baarder

Hi Chris,

I have the Baader IRB filter & Contrast Booster. The IRB is great - I got it originally for Mars in the Summer but now leave it in place all the time. I haven't used the Contrast Booster much - I actually used it on Saturn a couple of nights ago & had good success. I managed to image the Encke Minima (for the first time) in B&W. I'll send you a copy of the picture off line.

I would recommend both for the money - like you say they don't break the bank.

Cheers,  John.
