PC Monitor flashing on and off

My PC monitor kept going black yesterday and if I pressed the on-off switch I could get it to go back on again, but eventually it packed up altogether, but the power light was flashing on and off. 

I have a spare and that works just fine, but before I take it to the tip, can any-one tell me if there is a simple fix or what might be wrong with it. 

If it's easily sorted I'll keep it as a spare if not I'll chuck it.

Bin it, they're cheap these days and the colour and contrast will probably be better on a new as well.

Thanks Duncan, sort of what I thought but just wanted to check it wasn't anything simple as it was quite a bit larger than my spare and nice to use until the last couple of days.
