OK, but there is no link for adding a URL from elsewhere, I normally use Astrobin so I can link a PNG by way of a URL?

Are you confusing Linking with Uploading in the Gallery ?
I only remember Uploading from a file location to the Gallery - has been a while though

No Mick, there use to be on the old Gallery a tab for uploading from images hosted elsewhere, but that is no longer there.
I have used both methods in the past as I couldn't always get the URL link to work.

Oh right, that's what I meant, I thought you meant something else - Ricks fault  :D

Doing 130 down an autobahn at the moment with truck loads of radioactive waste behind... Will take a look in a day or three...

Are you delivering, stealing or running away ?  :o

Sounds like a scene from a Bruce Willis movie.

Can't picture Rick in a dirty vest - Thankfully

Must get that thought out of my head before I go to sleep  :(

Ok.

1. The new uploader allows multiple files to be uploaded at once in a much easier way than the old one did, but it now requires upload from local file system. The "Upload from URL" function's no longer available. Sorry, but there's no going back on that one.

2. It has allowed TIFF uploads for a while, but they're intended for folk to upload raw data for others to play with. FITS is also allowed. It treats both as "document" rather than "image" files, so it won't try to make proper thumbnails from them.

3. If you want your images to display nicely, use one of the allowed image types. They are JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg), PNG (.png) and GIF (.gif).

4) You can also (but again, it's intended for folks wanting to upload raw data) upload video (in .avi, .wmv, .mov or .vlc).

5) Well, there was this convoy going down the autobahn, and we got between a couple of the trucks. Then we spotted the interesting collection of warning signs (Radiation! Toxic! Corrosive! Environmental Contamination!) on them, and decided we'd get past them as soon as possible...

Sounds like you were stuck between two Kraftwerk albums, Autobahn and Radio-Aktivity [sic]!

Please either move the TIFF files to the raw data album or delete them, and upload the images in a more appropriate format for display in the gallery.

Thanks.

Carole

Thanks Rick, shame about the upload URL function as this would have saved space on the website.

It always fetched a copy of the file, so it didn't save any space, just gave a different way of uploading the images.

Rick

I've replaced a whole bunch of the default thumbnails so it's obvious what's going on.

I've also moved the two new TIFF files out of the public part of the gallery.

Carole

Seems to be working better than old site now it is tweaked.
