Lighthouse to be switched off due to light polution

Yes crazy as it might seem the BBC reported that arround a dozen lighthouses were to be switched off because the light from nearby towns are making the beams hard to see!
The BBC article mentions only the electronig navigation aids, but the radio report also mentioned the light polution problem.
