Here is my first Jupiter of the season and the first using my DBK21 USB colour camera.

Used on a Celestron C11 with x2 Barlow and an IR (cut) filter.  Recorded lossless at 15 frames/sec.  This is just a quick process in Registax using 1000 frames.



The seeing was OK at the beginning and then deteriorated later in the evening.  On a night with good seeing I think this combination will be able to produce outstanding results.

For the technically minded, this was recorded using the lossless Y800 codec.  Registax performed the debayering to create the colour image.

The ghosting appearing during sharpening - it might be indicative of an alignment issue or it might be something else.

Next time I'll probably do the debayering in VirtualDub because it seems to considerably slow down Registax.

Why don't you give AviStack a go? I think this image would be processed much more thoroughly, it certainly reveals more detail with my attempts.

Good idea - I'll do that once I've finished chopping branches off trees, mowing down the remaining brambles and sawing up Winter logs in the woods.  Now I know why they call it "garden leave" !

How do you feel the DBK21 compares to your SPC900?

First impressions are very good.  Subjectively the DBK21 seems to be cleaner at 15 frames/sec than the SPC900 at 5 frames/sec.  It certainly has much less in the way of coherent noise i.e. no diagonal blue lines.  This should all give it a substantial advantage.

The detail in the ghost image seems slightly higher than in the disk, I know the bands etc. are not uniform and it could simply be the distortion where the parts of the image join are giving the illusion

Yes.  It works well and Registax understands the RAW Y800 codec.

This one was taken a few minutes later.  1700 frames were stacked in Registax using a multipoint alignment in Registax.  Overall I reckon this is a slight improvement on the earlier one.

well ive found my adapter for eyepiece projections,
my new camera does full HD video,
and i've found a software prog that rips the indivual frames out of the .mov files and saves them as .bmp,
(AVI stack doesnt do .mov and my camera only saves as .mov)

Just need a clear night over the next few weeks and see what i can get on Jupiter.

Yup, I reckon it's much better too, Mark. The image has more depth to it.
