[The Thing]

Yet another Jupiter. It was a bit gusty last night however a bit of a breeze doesn't seem to bother AviStack. I am always amazed at what can be pulled out of the AVIs.

Jupiter was at 36deg elevation. It clouded over shortly afterwards.

LX90 8" UHTC with Moonfish 2x ED 2" barlow and SPC880/900 unmodded webcam.
Giuded by QHY5 on Finderscope with PHD.

There are two moons on the AVI but they must have been too blurry and wobbly to be stacked. I will see if I can get them to appear.

Hi John,

The strange diagonal lines are a webcam artifact, they are on all the AVI frames. Unfortunately they get stacked. I am wondering if it's to do with the 12v->5v step down device I use to power the hub. It is a Maplin device and you select the voltage output by repeatedly pushing a button which implies some sort of switched mode type circuit (but I am no expert). The output might not be smooth DC...

Very nice, Duncan. AVIstack certainly appears to do the job for you. I've tried it but it rejects my AVI's, something to do with codecs.

Great image - your best Jupiter so far!

Slightly too oversharpened for my taste but I'm nit-picking by saying that.  I reckon if you apply a Gaussian blur of radius 0.8 you don't lose any detail but you do gain some smoothness.

I can't see any diagonal lines in your final image but I have certainly experienced them in individual frames with the SPC900.

Well I am only looking at image on my laptop screen & they are clear as anything. He has the blackpoint clipped on background so maybe this is why you cant see. If you put image intro PS & just move the middle pointer in levels to the left they jump out at you. Dark #blue' diagonal lines top left ot bottom right... all across image. Shame as it is a great Jupiter.

Hi Phil, Just follow the instruction on the website, you need to install something from another site that allows AivStack to open most AVIs.
