I'm now back from a mainly warm & sunny week in France.  I had the Celestron C11 with me  - there were a few clear nights but I didn't get a single night of really good seeing for Jupiter.

However I saw this one evening while sitting outside reading.  When I noticed it, I dashed inside to get the camera and only managed one quick shot before it disappeared - hence the less than perfect composition.  The "garage" is illuminated by an outside light.  In the sky on the left is the moon and Jupiter.  Above the garage is the "moon dog".

Nikon D70, 22mm lens at F4, 10sec exposure at ISO 200

Full scale crop:

I have to be honest - when I saw the "bright patch" in the sky I didn't actually perceive the rainbox colours.  But since it was around 20 degrees from the moon I guessed what it was and grabbed the camera.

Ah, an illuminated foreground...I see you're getting the hang of competition astrophotography, Mark

Interesting moon dog.

Good one. The intensity of the colours were, quite possibly, below the threshold as far as your retina was concerned.

Bottom right. Is that reflection from some plant labels or those tacky solar powered lamps everyone is putting in their gardens nowadays?

Yes, we were testing out some tacky solar lamps - that's why they're bunched together.

The idea is to place them nearby the obstacles that are easily tripped over in the dark.

Almost certainly, yes.

What...................................... you've tripped over that garage?  :o
It's not lights you need, it's stronger glasses. ;)

Shame on you.

That's a very posh garage, Mark
It is healthier to be mutton dressed as lamb, than mutton dressed as mutton!

It's just an outbuilding constructed from a prefab garage kit.  There's no way to get a car near it!
