Never get a new Microsoft OS until the first Service Pack is issued at least.

Wrong, you added a little too much text there.
you should have left of this bit   "until the first Service Pack is issued at least"
so it reads

Never get a new Microsoft OS..

there thats better.

oops forgot to remove the word new.

Never get a Microsoft OS..

Thats it.

At the moment im having fun trying to get the hard disk to boot.
cant find my old dos disks. and all my tools are packed away so i cant even remove the disk itself.

It's not us. It's the idiots at Microsoft who leave all those nasty bugs in and then release it as finished.

I had that fun with the Toshiba laptop I got off eBay - no floppy or CD drives, no installed O/S.  The hard drive is that same one used by older iPods. So I had to buy an IDE to iPod adaptor so I could plug the drive into my desktop machine and install the O/S files onto it.

Finished.

XP Pro is now installed, all i need now is the drivers for everything.

Im just glad that it can boot off of a memory stick.

That's a relief!  My Toshiba wouldn't do that.

I had a similar problem where the laptops (yeah - I had thirty of 'em  :o) would not acknowledge the USB DVD drive at bootup. Tried a different drive from another manufacturer which worked as smooth as you like - it seems that not all USB 2 devices are created equal !

Anyone know if there is a live disk available for the apple operating system?

Mike

There are no legal ones. You may find something hooky.

Naa, i was looking for legal ones, similar to the Linux stuff.

So i could see if it was compatable with the Apple os.

It runs Linux and Ubuntu so it should run Apple.

Might try it later.

OSX can only be legally run on Apple hardware.

hmm not so.
Apple support Power PC platforms.    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X

You can legally run apple OSX on any intell based machine. You only need to purchase the operating system.
Although you need the intel version of the OSX.

Thats why the designed the intel version of their operating system. so they could make use of the greater speed
advantage of the intel chips.

The version of OSX I have Leopard 10.5 runs fine on my desktop. And its not apple hardware!! its PC.
