Being that I am having a lot of problems getting the Canon shutter to fire via USB- Serial connector. I am thinking of getting a DSUSB. It seems that you connect the DSUSB to USB port on laptop & then the other cable goes from DSUSB to Camera. It is supported by most or the popular software programs & means you are not using a serial connector it is direct USB. It is Shoestring, who sell the GPUSB for  guiding, which I have always used.

So there are two cables coming from the camera & still two connectors gointg into the USB ports.

Has anyone any ideas about  these?

With all the money you've spent trying to solve this problem you could have simply bought a new laptop by now.

Wasn't Shoestring prepared to exchange your USB/serial connector ?

You might just have a duff lead.

Mac

bring your laptop, camera and cable tomorrow and i'll have a look.

The Thing

I have no problems with my home brewed opto-isolated serial connected device. It even has a dual colour LED, red so you can see it's working then green when its triggering an exposure. You don't need a new device, the only problem I ever have is pushing the jack plug into the camera all the way as its a snug fit. Doesn't work if it isn't.

Fay

Well, Robert was looking at the fit, he though it seemed small. He has tested all the cables etc every which way & all was ok.

Perhaps I should get a new jack cable. Does it have to be a special one for Canon? Or can it be a Maplin job?

Not sure where the problem is Fay.  When you brought it around for me to look at it all worked floorlessly first time.  We even checked each component seperately with my camera, I even checked the connectors visually and for continuity and all the joints were good.

When did it start going wrong again?  Is there some other component such as an extension cable we didn't check?

Well, have got the Canon going in LX mode.

Culprit  was the USB - Serial com port . It was on Com 11 but I needed a lower one, none available........until I made one available! Hope I have not disabled something else. Probably the Atik won't work or something. Big test coming up with all equipment, watch this space

Canon, at the moment is firing on all cylinders,  :boom:    all programs
