Hi All,

Went out Friday night & decided to try & get the Cocoon Nebula.... This was on my target list at last DSC but never got a chance to image it because of the clouds...

Image below represents 100 X 45 Secs guided exposures with SC3 & MN56 & 0.5X FR with Astronomik CLS - I really need to get myself a filter wheel so I can try some RGB... The Cocoon nebula is mainly a hydrogen gas cloud & open star cluster (IC5146) consisting of mainly 12th mag stars - there are some interesting dust lanes in the nebula. It is actually quite a dim object & was quite tough to process without introducing too much noise.

Anyway as usual comments very welcome....

Cheers,  John.

Wow that's better than my one !! Lovely detail.

Fantastic, John, it is a change to see an image of a less common subject.

There is no holding you back now you are guiding. Oh God, not something else I will have to learn!!!!!!!

It is healthier to be mutton dressed as lamb, than mutton dressed as mutton!

Hi Fay,

I must admit you made me laugh.... :-) If you want to learn to guide you will need two LX webcams & you have to run two lots of K3 on your computer at the same time plus a load more cables... You'll also need to expand the USB ports on your laptop if you haven't already done it... Like I said the other day it takes me about an hour to set up now.... Until you reliably get your single SC3 & K3 working I wouldn't even try it. I'll be pleased to show you how mine all links together sometime...

Thks for the comments on the picture,  John.
