It would be nice to orient the sensor in the SeeStar S50.

Messier 8 taken with the #seestar S50 in a 5h 27m 20s exposure, 20s subs.
Processed in PixInsight. More details in Gallery entry.

Was thinking th same thing.  Guess you'll have to do a Mosaic.  I must say I do dislike the Smartphone orientation of these smartscopes, shame they could not have made a Square sensor.

That's a lovely image with great colours too
I am not keen on all Seestar images being taken in Portrait but I thought we were able to change the image to Landscape

Hi Carole,
Square sensors would be OK if the devices only worked in EQ mode, the rectangular sensor in portrait mode gives a bit more leeway in cropping for field rotation. Most sensors are rectangular but outside of a smart scope you have the luxury of being able to rotate the camera.
Dave you can always rotate the image to landscape in post processing, but that then can theow off the 'usual' orientation of the imaged subject. Both the SeeStar and Dwarf can create mosaic images and you can crop accordingly.

Carole

That's true, but landscape would be preferable to Portrait mode.

Thanks Paul- I need to have a go at creating mosaic images

It's the TicToc mobile phone influence at work. You pretty much never saw a portrait video until phones stared having video cameras in them. Now landscape's a rarity, even when it really would make a lot more sense. :/
