Airglow Blasts over the Dolomites

On a trip with friends to the beautiful Dolomites mountain range this past autumn, while observing the night sky, we experienced the craziest and strongest airglow I had ever seen. Structures were clearly visible to the naked eye, reminding me of cirrus clouds. But of course, the sky wasn't cloudy at all. Rather, airglow is the natural glow of the Earth's atmosphere -- it forms in the lower thermosphere.
