Well the QSI is not going to start tonight. Tried everything, Black screen no reaction to light, even when light shone onto it, shutter opening, ADU=o.

Changed cable, checked device manager. Shut down laptop, done everything I can think of. Lights on back of camera operating correctly.

On phone to Ian King tomorrow!!!!!!

umm. doesn't sound good... How do you know shutter is opening? John

Fay

I have got it going. The one thing I did not do was take the mains plug out & put it back in.

I knew the shutter was working as I held the camera & looked into it.

Sounds like it's not initialising properly on startup.

Fay

Do you think it odd that it happens often, Robert?

I think I would ask Ian to check it out - After spending that sort of money you dont want the grief that it has been giving you... John

Fay

Well, I have contacted Ian about it before, but have sent him a mail.

It does seem strange and something you need to get sorted before the warranty runs out.  I've seen posts on other forums that it can be a bit sensitive to voltage changes (fixed in firmware) but since you're running it from the power brick anyway that shouldn't come into the equation.

As a last resort you'll probably have to send it to Ian to check out.

Failing that just send it to me for a few months Fay & I'll check it out for you...  .....

Seriously though if you want me to load the software on my laptop & try it out for you then that that is no problem... at least that way you can eliminate laptop/ software...

Once it is up and running, it is ok, does not fail. As Robert says, it must be sorted out

For a camera costing that amount of money you expect it to work reliably.
While it is under warranty they should take it back and sort it out/replace it.

Must be very frustrating.

Good job you didn't sell the Atik yet.

Fay, do you always plug things in and turn things on in the same order ?
Sometimes this really does matter
