Help ! - xp usb serial device malarky

Anyone know of a painless way of resetting usb serial ports back to sensible values ?  I have a 4 port serial to usb converter and it's now up to comm port number 44 !   It's causing havoc with my setup.

Serves me right for not marking which usb port it went into in the first place !

Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device Manager   right click on the COM port in question and then one of the options lets you force a different number for it.
