Thanks Guys, hopefully that was my problem.  Looks like I was quite lucky then to get focus at all, as the image above was done with the diagnonal in place!!!

Duh!!  Learning all the time!!!

Now to see if I can make K3 behave.

Any further thoughts on an alternative capture software.  What do others use, preferably something user friendly and if possible cheap or free?  Ditto for processing software.

it's being actively developed at the moment. However, I haven't used it so can't vouch for it. If you get it going you can be the society expert

I have used wxAstroCapture as a guiding application and it's pretty good but not ASCOM compliant. It also has some nice capture features.

That's not exactly surprising, as ASCOM seems to be a Windows-only initiative, and wxAstroCapture is trying to be cross-platform.
