From my back garden in Sidcup on Friday 3 July at approx 11pm BST
I have a whole sequence of images taken between 10:45pm and 11:15pm BST

Nikon D70 with 55mm lens at F4.5
Exposure of 6sec at ISO 200

The cloud formation was approx 15deg above the horizon in the NW

Good shot, Mark. I saw them as I was driving home from Gravesend, but they seemed to have faded a bit by the time I got home, and my camera's not quite up to catching them.

Ian

nah, that's not Sidcup, there's a palm tree on the left hand side...

;) nice one

In the right place at the right time and with a camera. No surprise there.

Super pic.

It is healthier to be mutton dressed as lamb, than mutton dressed as mutton!

Finally I've got around to creating an animated version of the noctilucent clouds seen from my back garden 3 weeks ago.

This animation covers the half hour period from 22:45-23:15 BST (3 July 2009).

Excellent, Mark. Did you have the camera running in some sort of time-lapse mode?

MarkS

No.  I simply stood there for half an hour taking a frame every minute or so.  I have no time-lapse mode on my Nikon :(

Good thinking - I'll look into that.
