NGC 7000 Narrowband, with DSLR Proof Of Concept

Hi All, now i know this is WAY too green right now on account of me not getting enough SII and OIII data on this, but this was taken last night through the mist. All done on a Canon 40D DSLR

The Ha data came out pretty ok considering the conditions, but the mist then eventually fog crept in and seriously affected the SII and OIII passes, Ideally I Should have done 10 minute exposures on those two, but I was tired and didn't want to have to take darks for every pass so did all passes at 300s ISO 800.

Anyway, im hoping to get out to try to get a bit more SII and OIII tonight to get this working properly, but as a proof of concept, im encouraged.

I've mapped this to the Hubble Pallette R G B being SII, Ha, OIII respectively

By the way, this has minimal processing, just levels, curves and some noise reduction.

I think there may be some colour gradients in there which makes it all appear a bit strange.  The detail is great but there is also a lot of noise but that might have been due to the conditions - as you say - you ran out of time.

I'd like to see more data ...

Hi Mark, yes. im definitely going to try to get the SII and OIII again (hopefully tonight) the mist had set in pretty bad once we'd started on those, but and i've really had to stretch those to get anything out of them, will try 10 mins subs tonight and hopefully get onto them before the mist sets in.

Very interesting technique ! Are these taken with Astronomik 2" or the newer clip filters ?
