An interesting idea. Jonathan Shanklin's talk showed that there is some astronomy that can be done from Antarctica. I guess, if you placed the observatory close to the magnetic pole you could avoid too much interference from aurorae, and if you place the observatory at the geographical pole then the whole sky is circumpolar. For half the year the sun gets in the way though. :wink:
