This was difficult to process - strong moonlight gradients and the tail is very faint.  However I've managed to extract some tail detail.

It's the same field of view as my 28 Dec image.  So it looks like the coma has grown by quite a lot.

Nice Mark... I prefer shots of comet like this with the star-field shifted (as opposed to static background) - gives image a sense of speed - Nice - John

Well done, I look forward to seeing the efforts when the moon is out of the way.

Great image Mark. That thing must be moving fast.

I've been admiring everyone's great Lovejoy images and went down to the local beach this evening with my 80x20s - it was stunning, very green with a hint of tail. Didn't have time to set up the camera before it started clouding over as I spent too long just looking. Maybe tomorrow...

I'm taking it that's not a Beckenham beach...

The Thing

Sorry about the thread deviation. Nah. I don't live in Beckenham much any more :)

Should get another chance at the comet on Saturday night. I have set up a rig on my Star Adventurer with two Canons using APT 2.70 in client & servers mode to sync the exposures. Either that or I'll get arrested for aiming two canons in the genral direction of the Gendarmerie :}

I'll be back for the next meeting if they don't lock down the ports.
