OAS Christmas Event 2021

Hello OAS Members -

You are cordially invited to join the Christmas OAS Meeting on Wednesday 22 December at 7:30 pm.  This meeting is now Zoom only, as a precaution given the ongoing Covid situation.

Tony Sizer will be our master of ceremonies. Members should ensure that they have a glass of something and a mince pie at the ready.   

The event will consist of an introduction by Andrew Ramsay, Acting Chair, followed by a review of the astronomical month by retiring Observing Officer, Doug Hopkins.  Tony will introduce our President, Greg Smye-Rumsby, who will give a talk entitled "Key Events in the Astronomical World - A Personal View".  Tony will then open his 2012 Christmas Quiz.  We expect the evening to end at around 9:30 pm.

Zoomers will be able to join from 7:15pm, to assist a prompt start to the meeting.

NOTE: Some advice to help you enjoy the evening.  Read carefully.  Thank you in anticipation for your help.

a] When joining via Zoom, please have a Zoom link name shown that we will be able to recognise to assist allowing you in promptly.  When you are given access, please have your video and sound on, so that we can recognise you and continue to show the recognisable Zoom link name throughout the evening.  If you do not, or do not reply to a direct 'Zoom chat' message, you may not be granted access or later have your link cancelled.

b] If you do not know or are unsure how to amend your Zoom link name, please join and ask Zoom 'control' to amend your Zoom name tag for you.  We appreciate that during the evening that you may need to mute your sound and blank your screen to help you receive a better signal.  Your Zoom name link will still be shown for us to identify and continue your attendance.

c] Once you have secured access and are happy that you have a stable link, please mute your sound to prevent extraneous noises spoiling other Zoomers enjoyment. Remember that when you wish to speak you can do so by pressing the space bar and then speaking; release the space bar when you finish speaking to hear the reply.  Allow a second between pushing the space bar and speaking to avoid your first word being lost.
