A couple of quickly taken hand holds from last night..Don't you just love those 'ultra' bright LED lights... :-(

Very nice images, John. Personally I don`t mind the white LED lights, they are an improvement on the sodium yellow lighting that we had. Did you notice the long band of cloud that remained in the sky for ages? It was really long; must have been twenty or more miles long.

Keep up the good work.

Doug.

Lovely sky. I prefer the street / led part cropped out.

The imagers will disagree. They are broadband spectrum whereas the sodium lighting was narrowband. Means filtering out the LED lights will be much harder. Hopefully they will all be shielded properly.

Unlikely. They didn't shield properly on my street despite me complaining. The lights also seem much brighter and could do with turning down a bit.

Rick

Yeah, the LED ones seem less well directed than the newer sodium ones were, and they're often way too bright, especially along the main roads.

JohnP

must admit it does look like the whole tree's light up... never noticed that with the Na... :-(

I think they put the same exactly the same LED lights up whether it's a main road or alley without any thought to what's actually required.  I got the council to dim and shield those nearby but even so we still got blackout curtains.  Can you imagine what the sky will be like on a snowy night :(

LED lighting also has a strong blue component.  Blue light scatters much more than red so there is probably a lot of blue light being scattered upwards.

It is also claimed that the blue light has various nefarious effects on wildlife.  On humans too, actually - upsetting sleep patterns.

Nice pictures John, but always something against us!
