Thanks all. Maybe it is my best yet.

What it really shows is you can't beat lots and lots of data when it comes to deep sky images. Suddenly the processing becomes much easier.

That's why Carole keeps revisiting previous images with more data, really makes a difference...

That's really excellent Duncan, might even be one of your best images ever.  Normally M51 images are all close-ups but it really comes alive in the wider field due to all the other interesting stuff in the background. The colours are great too.

Very nice.  That image goes very deep.  I love the M51 tidal tails.

Arcsinh stretching has made this a very pretty picture.
431 x 60s at unity gain (1600) using PixInsight Fast Integration. For those that have PI, processing used: SFC_SCC_MGC_Bx_Nx_Arcsinh_DC, then a little Clarity, Denoise and Curves in Affinity Photo.

Image date, time and location:   2025-02-27, Manche France
Telescope aperture and focal ratio:   TS1506UNC 6" f4 607mm fl
Camera and filters used:   QHY294PROC OSC, Svbony UVIR
Processing applied:   Pixinsight, Affinity Photo

Athena Moon lander FOADs – falls over and dies – in crater
Second time unlucky for Intuitive Machines, but hey, at least we got 250MB of data from it

The Athena lander, which touched down on the Moon on Thursday and promptly fell over, has been declared dead by its operators.

The spacecraft missed its intended landing point by more than 1,300 feet (400 metres), coming down in far more rugged terrain than intended – in a crater, no less – and toppled over. According to its maker Intuitive Machines, the lander was unable to recharge its batteries due to being stranded in the shade, and the space biz declared the mission over Friday. The lander made its way over to Earth's natural satellite using a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket.

"With the direction of the Sun, the orientation of the solar panels, and extreme cold temperatures in the crater, Intuitive Machines does not expect Athena to recharge," the outfit said. "The mission has concluded and teams are continuing to assess the data collected throughout the mission."

Athena spacecraft declared dead after toppling over on moon
Robotic private spacecraft touched down about 250 miles from its intended landing site on Thursday

A robotic private spacecraft designed to provide crucial data for returning humans to the moon toppled over as it landed on the lunar surface, bringing an immediate and premature end to the mission, its operators said on Friday.

Athena, a probe launched by the Texas-based company Intuitive Machines (IM) last month, touched down about 250 miles from its intended landing site near the moon's south pole on Thursday. Initially at least, it was generating some power and sending information to Earth as engineers worked to make sense of data showing an "incorrect attitude".

On Friday, however, IM declared Athena dead.
