Post by: Mike on Jan 27, 2014, 09:13:41
We have a DSC coming up this weekend. It will be at Blacklands as Rother Valley will be a bog.

Who is planning on going? (Weather permitting).

I'm planning on going. I don't care if it's cold as long as there is no rain or high winds.

I'm really looking forward to it - even if we do no imaging.  I've got a new version of the weird French stuff 'cos my local French supermarket don't sell the previous one any more.

I'll bring it along and you can tell me what you think.  I wonder if it goes just as sparkly in the cold?

Guys, looks like we should call this one off. The forecast is currently heavy rain with Met Office yellow rain warnings and gusts of wind up to 48mph. Not exactly astronomy weather.

Perhaps we can organise a uDSC in February if the weather improves.

150mph winds?  That's not in line with any forecast I've seen.  But if true then we would be doomed ...

I think the stupid winds will be to the SW and/or Scotland.

I get flood alerts from the environment agency - High tides and force 9 winds from the South (up to 54 mph) - The coast will possibly suffer most on the SE side of England
So it looks like your trees will be safe Fay

Start with the roof if that's true, mind you you'll have to find out where it landed first :o

Well I made the most of a (mainly) sunny and dry today to build a set of roof trusses and runners for the replacement observatory roof.  As soon as we get a dry weekend I can put the new roof on.  However it looks like we've got a nasty storm on Wednesday and according to ECMWF, an even nastier one next Saturday.  So it could be a long wait!

You'd better tie the new bits to the apple tree or they could float off down the hill when the next storm hits!
