So as not to Hijack Caroles post. http://forum.orpington-astronomy.org.uk/index.php?topic=8370.0;topicseen (http://forum.orpington-astronomy.org.uk/index.php?topic=8370.0;topicseen)
I asked the question how big would Caroles image have to be if it was to scale.
and here is the answer.
Assuming the sun is 200 pixels wide and is 864000 miles diameter, this gives us a pixel size of 4325 miles per pixel.
the orbit sizes are shown in miles
If you were to print at 300 dots per inch then this is the distance in inches from the sun
sun mercury venus earth mars jupiter saturn uranus neptune pluto
orbits 864938 36000000 67200000 93000000 141000000 483000000 886000000 1784000000 2794000000 3674000000
pixels to orbit 200 8324 15538 21504 32603 111684 204870 412515 646057 849540
miles per pixel 4324.69
Distance from sun inche 27 51 71 108 372 682 1375 2153 2831
Distance from sun ft 9ft 31ft 56ft 114ft 179ft 235ft
So in answer to my own question, ignoring the cale of the planets themselves and including pluto.
You would need a sheet of paper 235ft in length.
hmmmm,
my next question is,
how much black ink will you need & how much will it cost. ;)
dont forget im ill.
i've loads of time spare at the moment.........
I'll let you know

Get well soon
Epson quote their coverage @ 5% on an Epson 880 as 630 pages at £ 34.99 from PC World. (other retailers are available).
so one cartridge will cover 630/20 = 31.5 pages or 31 cant really print half a page.
1 A4 page is 11.7 in assuming no overlap, so you will need 242 pages.
and 8 ink cartridges @ a cost of £280
Epson quote a print time of 1m 45 for a full photo, so assuming 1/4 of the time as its not full resolution
then the time to print it will be just under 2 hours
Told you i was bored ill
Mac
Just print it as a negative then you don't waste ink ;)
:cheesy:
