I can't believe that it is ten years and two days since SL9 smashed into Jupiter. Thru the telescope, though many didn't expect to see much if anything, Jupiter looked just like a space hopper. With two giant eyes on its face where the comet mixed the layers of Jupiter's atmousphere. Ten years ago Jupiter was very low in the south and well before web-cams. But the whole country was captiveted over the week long impact drama.

The OAS gathered in the field on Skibbs Lane to observe the event. Cue Greg exclaiming "Oh wow! Look at that!" just about loud enough to be heard in Orpington High Street... :wink:
It was an impressive display. It was also one of the first (if not the first) serious web-meltdown occasions, as the entire web-connected world tried to look at NASA's SL-9 web-site. :wink:
