Here is a version I took on Sunday night using a CLS filter. The imaging was affected by thin high level cloud that passed over from time to time but nevertheless I am pleased with the result.
H-alpha modified Canon 350D on Tak Epsilon 180ED with IR/UV and CLS filters.
39 x 5 min at ISO 800
10 x 50sec at ISO 400
10 x 10sec at ISO 200
All combined into a single HDR image and then arcsinh scaling applied before slight sharpening.

That's lovely Mark, the dust looks really excellent. I have to say one thing and that is whereas mine had a lack of colour in the center of M42 I think the red is a bit too bold in yours.
Robert
Very nice.
Did you use your new technique on the stars ?
Vertical bands barely noticeable now

No - I just did some slight sharpening

This is a totally new image and did not suffer much from banding.
I'd love to know why sometimes the banding is worse than at other times.
