Chris, sorted my two laptops so I could go online wirelessly via the desktop which is wired. All has worked fine, until last night when both laptops would only stay on line for about a minute before disconnecting.
There is a problem with "acquiring network address"
Can anyone offer any advice on what I should do? Thanks
reboot everything,
all the computers and the router,
normally works.~
Mac.
Mac, is it easy to explain how to reboot the router?
Turn it off then turn it on.
Chris
well I do that every day
What!!?? Why??
I always turn all computers off at night
Yes but you don't turn your router off !!! :o
all turned off at the mains
OK, just be aware that you are
a) Reducing the router life due to thermal stress
b) Probably causing your ISP to reduce your connection speed as they consider routers going on and off regularly to be a noise issue. Your ISP monitors your connection using Dynamic Line Management (DLM).
Routers are designed to be left on 24/7 - Mines been on permanently for years.
This could be a contributing factor in your connection issues.
Oh ok, will do in future
Well I turn mine off everynight as well because it stops the boys using the wireless for movies/ porn when I go to bed... (that's not to say they haven't used software before hand though to save it all to their PC though.. :-( ) Not had any problems.
John
I turn my wireless router off every night as I'm not awake to use it  ...and it saves a smidgin of power. Never had any problems. A reboot usually helps most computers and these things are computers.
Oh looks like it is back to plan A
