Title: Nebulosity problem
Post by: mickw on Sep 05, 2010, 14:27:17
After the fun and games trying to process my Dwarf M13 I've been trying to set up Camera/Nebulosity again, this time trying to save images to camera as Raw and as fits to nebulosity.

Problem 1 - Doesn't matter if I set the camera to save Raw and/or JPEG, Nebulosity changes the setting in the camera to JPEG only, although it does save the Fits file.

Problem 2 - If I set Nebulosity to only save to the camera, I don't get a preview.  Nebulosity is also not happy with this and beeps at me with the message Arg! after each exposure.

I've even resorted to reading the instructions but can't find any help

Hi Mick,
Don't change the settings in the camera, use the Preferences menu item (Edit menu I think). Nebulosity will change the camera to whatever you set there e.g. save to card (Canon format files e.g. .CR2, JPG)  and PC (Nebulosity format files FIT). You do have to set Mirror Lock Up Custom 7 on the camera though.
Also:
When doing a Frame/Focus or Fine Focus the camera  the camera is set to JPEG by Nebulosity. These files are not saved on the PC or the card.
When doing a Capture or Preview (I think) it does a RAW FIT on the PC and RAW .CR2 on the card if that is what is set in Preferences.

Let Nebulosity do the work! There are very good tutorials on the web site and the help file is pretty good.

Thanks for that, I had missed a couple of things

Now changed Acquisition Mode to Raw - Preview is now in B&W but frame and Focus is colour - odd  :-?
Output - Colour file format changed to 3 separate FITS rather than RGB FITS as I don't have Maxim or Image Plus
Camera set to JPEG/RAW which saves both with Preview or capture, but only saves RAW.

Would be nice to have a preview in colour but what the hell - It actually seems to be doing what I (think) I want, not sure about the 3 x FITS though.

Cheers

That's how I use Nebulosity - it saves RAW to the camera card and displays a B&W preview on the laptop.  It's odd but it does the trick.

I think the preview is B&W because it's a RAW that's downloaded off the camera, not de-mosaiced yet.

That's right - the preview displays the RAW Bayered image.  You can only get a colour preview if you also save to the camera card as jpeg.
