Title: EQ6 Clonking
Post by: MarkS on Apr 12, 2010, 11:07:12
The Dec axis on my EQ6 does not move as freely as it used to - it is a bit stiff to move.  There is also a gentle "ticking/clonking"  sound every time it is sent a Dec guide pulse.

Is there some adjuster that might free it off slightly or will I have to strip the whole thing down?

There are two allen bolts on the top and bottom of the axis that can be used to adjust the position of the gear. That may need adjusting.

Have a look at this:

but it's not for the faint hearted.

If its a clonk when the guiding pulse goes through you need to adjust the worm ends, these have probably come a little loose, they are black with two small holes in them.  Take then off one has the adjuster behind it, its really easy to do.

Yes, the clonk is exactly when the guide pulse goes through.

Thanks - I'll check out the worm.

Thanks Phil for that very useful site.  Thanks Chris for the advice.

Job now done. I've also freed off both axes very slightly (i.e. the pressure on the main bearings of each axis) because both were a little stiff.
