Title: Orion Wide field
Post by: RobertM on Dec 06, 2009, 23:02:45
This is from Riberac with the unmodified EOS450D with CLS Clip filter and a 50mm lens at f4.  It's caused me a lot of grief to process but I think I've finally almost got there.

18 x 5 min subs tracked with the Astrotrac on a camera tripod.

This is the binned 2x2 version full size with warts and all...

Thats nice,

even barnards loop.

The amount of detail in the large one is fantastic.

Getting Barnard's Loop with an unmodified camera is a crazy idea!
But you've somehow managed to pull it off there.

Nice one!  It's a difficult one to process, that.

But you can't beat my own Riberac version for pure artistic merit - I'm tempted to send it to "Astronomy Now".

Very nice Robert. Processed well. Any chance of a version without the added spikes please?

Blimey Robert.  Lots of detail, if you zoom in you've even got the horsehead - albeit rather pixellated at that resolution.

Excellent.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Mark, what can I say other than that you're in a class of your own ;)

Yep, that's the one I posted  :-?  If you know of a star spikes removal tool then please let me know! Unfortunately lenses use diaphram blades so spikes are unavoidable, especially when they're stopped down this much (f1.4 -> f4) even with 8 blades.

You may also just notice the Witch head nebula appearing to the west of Rigel on the edge of the image.  Better framing would have caught the whole thing!

Ahh didn't realise you had stopped it down. Thought they were the dreaded 'Spikes Pro'  :o
