What is the date in November? (I am typing from work so don't have the OAS Calendar with me).
You could come to my house if I am free (haven't got much on in November), I have had lots of trees and shrubs cut down now, it would be suitable for 2 or 3 imagers. However some-one needs to take the lead role who is an expert on imaging.
Carole
No idea, but it's irrelevant as it's been cancelled. If you can make a Friday in November then we can simply advertise it on here, the website and at the mext meeting.
I'm home now, and the original date was 20th November which I can host if no-one with better facilities offers. My garden is not huge and there are one or two trees in distant gardens which get in the way from time to time. But I thought this might preferable to having to cancel.
I have a 32" Samsung TV (same as yours but smaller, I've never used it for linking to a laptop, but it does have the facility, should we need to do a presentation because it's cloudy. I'll have to find out how to do that.
So please feel free to advertise if you think this will be OK.
If it's going ahead I'll be looking for one or two people to talk about aspects of imaging if it's cloudy, or demonstrate kit or something.
Simon
QuoteAnyone is welcome. if you've not been before then send me a message for full details.
. Go into messages and send Mike a personal E Mail for his address etc. I've you've not got access to this yet, E mail me.

Do you mean they tend to move around?
Mark
QuoteDo you mean they tend to move around?
Very funny!!
I'm sure you know what I mean.
Not an ideal garden, but possibly better than cancelling the session.
Carole
You can use my garden in Eynsford, if you like as i said 140"x 55" all grass, would take about 30-40 people with scopes, only trouble is difficult to get low on the horizon. Again someone would have to front the meeting, who knows more than me :o
si
I am quite happy for it to be held somewhere more suitable. I don't mind "fronting the meeting" i.e. organising others to give a talk/demo if it is not suitable for imaging.
What do you think Mike?
It will certainly indoctrinate Simon into the spirit of things.

Sounds like a DSC :)
Simon,
usually there are only about up to 10 people at the imaging evenings, 90% fo the time it is too cloudy to go outside. I was a bit worried in case you were going to provide a bar b que for 40-50 people!!!!!!(with telescopes)
Simon, if we decided to take you up on your offer, are you OK to accommodate people in the house for an imaging discussion if it's cloudy. Hopefully we can get some-one to talk on aspects of imaging.
What do you think Mike?
We need to announce where we are going at the meeting, for those who don't use the Forum.
Carole
I won't be there so do what you like :cheesy:
Not much space in the house, espically if 10 people turn up. We are having some building work done at the house at the moment, which will be finished, i hope. Garden is perfect, but i suppose if it is cloudy then it is a pain. Trouble is we won't know til the day, what the weather is like. :-?
simon
Best to have attended at least one of these sessions so you know what folks expect before considering offering to host one yourself...
OK.
So does every-one want to come to my place then?
Not perfect, but the offer is there and I'll try to get something sorted for if it's not suitable for imaging.
I would need to know how many more experienced imagers will come as we'll need some-one who knows what they are doing so supervise those of us who are still learning.
i.e.
Mark
Robert
Fay
Ian
John
Chris
Duncan
Any-one I've missed
Carole
Carole, I can offer to hold it at my house on 20th Nov now I know the evening is free. There isn't a big screen but I (or someone else) can demonstrate some techiques and tips or we can image if it's clear. If folks want to bring their scopes then there's room for two or three of them on either patio.
I was typing this while you were posting your last reply but the offer still stands...
That's fine by me. I was only offering rather than cancel.
Demonstration of tips or techniques would be great.
Showing how equipment goes together and what they are used for etc would be useful for those still learning.
Processing and stacking after capture would be useful if any-one is willing.
Carole
Thanks for the offer Robert that's great.
I've added an Imaging Session on 20th November at Robert's place to the website dates list. OK?
Thanks Rick
Robert can't hold it on 20th, and last night we announced it would be on 13th, but then Mark noticed later in the evening that this is a DSC weekend.
So watch this space for a further announcement as to the date at Robert's. He was thinking of moving the next session into early December.
Can you make the announcement Robert?
thanks
Carole
don't forget the Christmas meeting is held a week earlier in the month.
Carole - seems like everything is against you on trying to get a date for this one.....?
New Moon's on December 16th, and the OAS December meeting's on the 17th.
...or you could break with tradition and hold it on a night other than Friday, say on the day before DSC starts?
I'll leave the 20th claimed in the calendar until you decide when it's actually going to be.
This event yes? no? is it happening. If so where and when.....
si
Hi Si/Carole/Mike,
I'm thinking that it should be held just before the next DSC, either on Wed 11th or Thu 12th November. That will give people the opportunity to ask questions and hopefully get answers/bring their kit around/iron out problems etc. I will try to make it a fairly practical hands-on type event depending on the weather.
Is there anything else planned for either of those two dates? Maybe it's too close to the High Elms event on the 10th...
Thoughts?
Robert
There's a committee meeting on the 11th.
Thanks Rick. Check but not Mate yet... that leaves the 12th.
Have you got a link to the calendar of OAS events as I can't find it...
It's at http://www.orpington-astronomy.org.uk/dates.html but you need to be logged in...
There're also lists of dates on the Meetings, Observing and Special Events pages that you can see without being logged in...
Ok, Fri the 27th looks clear but I'm sure I've missed something...
27th November would be better.
A committee meeting, on 11th followed by imaging on 12th followed by DSC on 13th would be a bit tiring.
Carole
Ok, that's a provisional 27th Nov at my place in Orpington.
Ok. Website updated accordingly.
I propose to use part of the evening as a practical imaging session if the weather is ok and processing session if not. Also if anyone else wants to talk about some aspect of imaging then I'd be very grateful.
You're welcome to bring any kit with you as I have two patio areas that will take several setups. The further patio has a nice heated garden office next to it with power and I also have a spare leisure battery. The rest of the evening will be free format like at Mike's.
Are potential or possible future imagers allowed as well, or is the session for existing imagers?? Doug.
Don't know about that Doug, but we do try to discourage people who have a habit of breaking galleries and stuff...
;) :cheesy:
Any OAS member is welcome at an Imaging Session regardless of whether you image or not. The whole purpose is for the imagers to learn from each other and the non-imagers that are simply curious to watch what goes on and learn how it's done.
Ok to bring my scope then, as well as laptop, and all the bits, ie: a car load, but not as much as carole brings. ;)
Carole you can use me laptop again if u like ;)

Do we get hot sausage rolls and fireworks..... ;) I never did get a sausage roll at Mike's
simon
The trick with the sausage rolls is to get in quick when you smell the first whiff of savoury pastry. If you have a cold then you stand no chance ;)
Scope, laptop and all the bits are welcome. Just be aware I don't want to be tripping over discarded CCD cameras and beer cans in the morning so make sure you clear up the mess before you go.
QuoteCarole you can use me laptop again if u like
Thanks Simon, I've got myself a shutter cable now, and a NEW laptop!!! every-one will be relieved to hear. Although I apologise to those who have spent a lot of time trying to fix up my previous set up.
I gave up trying to get the CCD camera to work on my previous laptop. Still don't know if it was the camera or laptop at fault, but something had to be done, and as I didn't have much space on the laptop, decided I would replace that.
Not had time to download the imaging software yet as I only received it today and it has taken me a fair bit if time to set it up and install the anti-virus/antispyware etc stuff.
So thanks Simon, but hopefully I will have set myself up sufficently to be able to use my own next time.
Yes, it's like moving house all the kit that has to be brought for imaging, and that's without doing guiding!!!
Quotepractical imaging session if the weather is ok and processing session if not.
that would be great thanks Robert, learning how to improve images would be a great topic.
Carole
Hi carole, I will be happy to go halves with you on the film, if you are still getting it, my laptop measures 29x22cms.
Sorry guys not answering many emails at the mo and not been to any of the events, My mum died on the 18th, so been off work for a week and only starting to get a life going again.
si
Oh that is sad Simon. Hope you soon get back to normal
Sorry to hear that Simon, I was wondering where you were both at the meeting and on the Forum.
I'll be in touch about the plexi glass as soon as I have heard from another place Mick told me about with a quote, who cut to size.
