When I turn the desktop on, a black screen with a windows message comes up every time. It flashes on & off so fast I can never read what it is about. Is there a way of keeping it on there to read?
Thanks
Sounds like something 'Dossy' to me....
Sure Mac or Ian knows how to capture it....
Fay,
Hit the Pause key.
Chris
if it's something that comes up right at the beginning when you first turn it on, and before windows loads up, it's just a bootup message from the bios. It might be interesting, but generally, if it's something wrong the system will pause and allow you to read it. As it isn't stopping, I wouldn't worry too much.
Or do you catch enough of the message to worry about it?
Personally Fay I think you should panic and worry about it, you never know what might be lurking in the box!
I have half an idea, and I'm worrying :o
What do you mean Ian??
Fay, I just had a chat with Ian on-line and we think if you are only getting half the message on the screen before it goes its something to do with the BIAS of the PC, I'd think its not got Turbo turned on and therefore your not getting the speed out of it, but it could be the system bus.
I pressed Pause & it worked. The message said to choose the system I wanted.....Windows XP or recovery. It was on XP , hope it does not come up again.
What little gems you all are!!!!!!!
system bus then, chris. The polarity of the discombobulator must have fluxed at some time causing positive overfeed to the flap jack.
Sh£$ Fay that was a joke, Pause causes an emergency restore :o sorry :-(
tic...tock......tic....tock...

Well, there was one occasion I remember pressing the turbo button and would you beleive it, the bus got hot and I could not do anything about it, what was really weird was the cooling on the PC kicked in and then whooof, it all went up, flames everywhwere, jipes, they don't tell you these things when you are a commuter....
I've been on a commuter train while it was rebooted. I'll pay more attention to the possibility of fire now.
Na na, you may laugh, but I also was on a train when it was re-booted, back in the wicked kicking-it power failure of New Cross 2002....
Was an odd experience, I was sitting between and Indian guy eating a Dhali, and another French guy describing music in terms of six people acting together to make uniformity in sound, wow that was a surreal train ride.
I ain't ever going to be allowed to forget that Commuter typo am I ???????
I would not worry about it did you see Mike's?

???
"What's the point of a star rounding plug-in if you need to start with rounded stars to ebing with?"
you mean you've never ebinged around a star? I think it originated in Yorkshire.
I'm confused I thought Mike was referring to the famous astronomer.....Baron Richard Von Krafft-Ebing.....
ok guys my fault, I thought it was an error, I sit here with a nearly empty bottle of wine corrected

video it. 8)
and then play it back.
to get that message back up, just hit the F8 key,
of course, sorry John you're right. How could I forget the eminent Kraftt-Ebing dynasty. IIRC, one of them is credited with the discovery that adding diffraction spikes on stars always makes the image look like one from Hubble. And that the effect is more pronounced the larger the spikes are, without limit. I think adding colour to them came later though.
I suppose I can safely say you are all kidding?????????????????????????? :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
maybe
............. and I thought I was an oddball..............
don't worry Doug, you are mate :)
Fay,
I had those subliminal messages as well,
Do what I did, just went out a bought a new one, that way the problem is not persistant.
So that's 12 computers, 6 monitors and 11 keyboards I have around the house now, just hope nothing goes wrong with this one as there's no room left.

Fay, to answer your first question, "Dare I say desktop" I think we've safely concluded it'd be best not to. They do have 2 for 1 deal on discombobulators in PC World at the moment, now might be a good time to get in a couple, just in case.
Pray what does a discombobulator do! (am I wise in asking)
I purchased some discombobulator's not so long ago but unfortunately they have all become discombobulated already.
