Title: First light Williams Optics
Post by: Mac on Dec 07, 2008, 23:12:25
Just a quick setup before i went to work,

William optics, 90mm F 6.9 on EQ6.

Polar aligned---Nope, just stuck in the back garden, sort of facing north, ish.

Stack of 30 Ha best 95% chosen,
Wavelets applied
Levels adjusted in photoshop.

Well done

A good clear image you've got there Mac!

QuoteThe moon in Ha?

Yup.

I was using the starlight express SXVF-H9
With the Ha filter, selected.
So although it is in Ha, its not realy,
As the moon's light is just reflected sun light, it is lit with all wavelengths,
i.e. white light,

This is just the Ha band.

i'll post some more later, one in each of, Ha, Hb, Oiii, and Lum.

Mac.

Now that i can access my website, i've reprocessed, and added two originals for comparison.

Reprocessed,
Stacked the best >95% from the original 64 Ha, only.
Each frame 0.09 seconds.
WO 90mm F6.9
Starlight Express SXVF-H9 all on a  HEQ6 pro mount.
I wasn't so aggrssive with the wavelets this time,
and only applied a small amount of unsharp mask.

Here are two single frames. resized down 50% for size here.
The first one is one of the lum files, but there is a lot of reflection/ghosting on the top of the image,
There was no cloud, and this was taken with a IR/UV filter.

This is one of the best frames from the Ha set,
note that the reflection/ghosting has gone.

I can't see any ghosting, Mac.

QuoteI can't see any ghosting, Mac.

Fay i've overprocessed the lum file and shaded the ghosting in red so its a little more obvious.
with the original for comparison.

Ok I see it now

Mac - No idea why you get the ghosting - Maybe it's internal reflection or something caused by the bright light that passes through the IR/UV filter - obviously when you switch to using the Ha the light levels are lower so it's not an issue..

I like the 2nd reprocess by the way - not quite as sharp as the first but it looks more natural to me... Good Job.

I wonder if it's a form of blooming? I get that with my D70 sometimes.

Could well be that would make sense..

I get the same if I try to image the moon using the SXV-H9 on my ED80. I gave up in the end and used my Nikon.
