Title: Chip Cleaned
Post by: Fay on Nov 27, 2007, 12:30:05
Have just had a nervewracking few minutes while I cleaned my Toucam chip. It had like a sludge all over it, big black marks, not like normal dust.

Luckily all seems ok, I have focused up the garden & it is nice & clean.
Using a clock repairers eyepiece, I blew the dust off first & used used buds & good quality lens cleaning fluid.

I'm glad it worked out ok for you.

The CCD window on a toucam is remarkably resilient and hard and it's not coated with anything that'll scratch. Unless you've got a desire to use a brillo pad on it, you're unlikely to damage it beyond use. The hardest part I find is making sure that the dust gets out of the casing, if not it'll only redeposit itself on the front of the CCD the minute you try and use it...

Yes, Ian, there was a lot of dust around the casing, which I got rid of first. I am thinking that even screwing the tube back on will deposit some dust again, but not as much as what I had on there. I always keep it covered as well, it was covered in large black flecks, only seen under this eye glass.

Wow, how do you blow off dust using a clock repairers eyepiece?

I assume no dognuts now?

Chris, you have had me really laughing. You are getting very doggy. What is a dognut????? Have you been looking too hard at Frodo?

Also, reply to the Bubble, "lie, say you used a newt with thick secondy supports" Is this  code or have you had a couple????????

Dear Ian and Fay,

The Dognut is my way of saying Doughnut, sorry it's an Essex thing, having said that Frodo's nuts are popping out nicely now, so I will soon be able to kick him in them when he is naughty.

Also "lie, say you used a newt with thick secondary supports" this refers to the nice diffraction spikes you get when you use them for imaging (a Newtonian telescope that is).

Again sorry for the spelling, Rick when can we get a spell checker?

Or, could it be a newt (reptile thingy) with large legs, maybe a middle age female one with a BMW 3 series or Drop Top Mercedes?

Well I certainly thought as much mate. You could get Firefox loaded up, it's got a built in spiel chequer. But the question is, where's the fun in that? :D
