Title: Webcam and security cam mods
Post by: Whitters on Apr 02, 2007, 22:27:58
Folks,
What's the latest news on mods etc, I have a chap at work itching to have a go. But I guess things have moved on since I left a massacred toucam on Ian's workshop table.

Hi Paul,

People are still modding camera's - The Philips SPC900N seems to be a popular one at the moment - this is the successor to the Philips Toucam. You can buy cameras already modded through Astronomiser. A quick search on the internet will show how to do the mod etc.. (I think it is easier to do due to layout of the webcam.) This page may help:

To be honest if I was starting out again I would probably go for something like Atik 16ic. This is based on my modded SC3 camera & has the much more sensitibe B&W chip + it is 16bit & it is Peltier cooled - runs around £300..  See here:

Hope that helps - John

I think the bargain is a second hand EOS300d at about £250 6 mpix deep sky camera can't go wrong.

that camera is still on my workbench Paul. Despite the fact I've moved house...

I've been thinking about finishing it and presenting it to you as a long-modified exposure camera :)

Thanks folks,
I'm surprised that the broken spider of a Toucam is still there after a house move. I'm still looking for some of my stuff.
