Saturn is at its closest approach to earth for 30 years tonight (Dec 17th) and if a miracle happens and the clouds dissapear, you will get a spectacular view of it.

Well, i've just been out to take a look at Saturn and it is truly a fantastic sight. The Cassini Division is very pronounced and easy to see. Features on Saturn itself are very clear and I could make out a brown band around the middle of the northern hemisphere (as looking at it from my scope), the northen polar region was also darkened and I could also make out smaller marks in the spaces in between.
It was definately the best view of Saturn I have ever had yet, despite the full moon close to it !! If you get the chance, go and have a look !!!
