Title: Foggy foggy nights....
Post by: Rick on Dec 28, 2024, 20:45:49
Well, I guess plenty of folk got fancy new kit recently, 'cos we've had an unremitting blanket of fog over much of the country since early on 24th....

Hopefully it'll clear away sometime soon.

Rick,

Yes lots of cloud and misty skies- but checking my weather apps it looks like clear sky on the evenings of Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd January in Orpington at least
I am keeping my fingers crossed

Hey, we had a clear frosty night for the Quadrantid maximum! Not quite the first good clear night in a month, but...

Yes, a clear sky at last- I was out in the garden for a while- just got too cold though  :(

The two Global Meteor Network cameras I run very seldom require me to go out in the cold, which makes them a great way do do some active astronomy without getting frozen. That they also automatically check the frames and upload the data is a bonus. :)

Theoretically I can just leave them to get on with things for weeks on end, but actually I usually give the night's captures a look through at breakfast time. Sometimes (as happened yesterday) that may take a while (and slow breakfast down quite a bit)...

Elsewhere, at least somebody got a good photo of the occultation of Mars: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap250115.html
