Title: Heads up on SharpCap 2.9
Post by: The Thing on Nov 08, 2016, 13:48:49
Just to let people know that SharpCap now has a great polar alignment routine built in which you can use with a finder guider or other. I have used it with a QHY5L-II and 22mm CCTV lens and a finder scope with QHY5. As long as the camera can see the pole star  or near it to start it will work. I suspect it is like the QHY PoleMaster gadget but without the gadget.

SharpCap solves the first view to work out where the camera is pointing, then you rotate in RA as much as you can, it will tell you if its far enough. SharpCap then solves the rotated view and tells you and shows you where to put Polaris in the FoV. Very easy and dead quick. I used EQMOD to do the rotation to so a PARK restores the scope to its initial position.

That's great Duncan thanks for the info; that'll be very useful.
