Thanks, Mick. Added to ticket. Did you get a chance to run a traceroute while the forum was being slow?

Oops

TBH, all a traceroute is going to show is whether the slow response is because of something struggling along the way. A nice swift traceroute does point the finger firmly at the server, though...

I suspect a fair number of the times our sites are slow it's down to some toe-rag attacking one (or more) of the other sites on the same shared server.

mickw

Could we please get moved off the CIA, FBI and Microsoft servers then  ;)

Every time it's been very slow for me a traceroute has not shown any problems. It's definitely all server side.

What, on to the GCHQ servers you mean  :-?

mickw

When doing a "traceroute", I assume that -

"tracert www.yourdomain.com" is replaced by

"tracert www.forum.orpington-astronomy.org.uk"

Is that right ?

Mac

yup

more to the point if you add the following.

tracert http://forum.orpington-astronomy.org.uk >mytextfile.txt

It will save the trace to the text file called, mytextfile

Mac.

Yep, that's showing something in the netwoork died. The ticket I submitted when I spotted the problem got the following response:

QuoteThis was due to a network card failure within the server. This has since been replaced and the server is back up and running, apologies for the inconvenience.

Mac

Just a quick note,
I would not post your own IP address, thats the one at the bottom.
We can have a lot of fun with that.

Dosent look like a routing problem,

Have fun Mac.

Painfully slow at around 14.30 today.  I get this often and in the end give up and come back later.  Other sites work OK so it's not my internet connection.
