Tried to adjust collimation again but only succeded in making it worse plus there's some drift going on that I've yet to find the cause of :(

Fay

looks a bit dark, is it my computer Robert?

Carole

Looks dark to me too.

Carole

The Thing

Lovely pointy stars but the gas/dust is a bit flat grey. The background looks completely black on my laptop. Very promising though, quality optics and steady mount.

Carole

A bit better Robert, I still think it's too grey and flat looking though.

I found a tweak in brightness and contrast in PS looked even better, but you'll need to be careful of the stars that you don't blow them out.

Great detail with the dark nebula though, shows the markings of the beak outline and eyes very clearly.  this shows up much better in your revised image.

I think I know what I did wrong so I'll reprocess from scratch - the result should be a lot more contrasty so addressing the general flatness issue.

Robert

MarkS

It looks very promising ...

RobertM

I've taken the contrast a bit further than I would normally do but to get the real contrast means adding another colour which will have to wait till another day.

Sorry Carole it remains grey for now.

Careful Robert.........................

Carole is trying to tempt you to the Dark Side of reprocessing ad infinitum  ;)

On my monitor it still has large areas of flat almost uniform grey.

As an example, this one http://orlop.net/astro/pelican-nebula-narrowband/ looks just about right on my screen.

Ok, I'll take another look.

RobertM

Does this look better (though I've overdone the dark enhancement) ?

A bit bigger: https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2909/14731252993_94ff6d795a_k.jpg
