after starting again from scratch, and reinstalling windows 7 Pro + drivers + hyper os
its works.

Dont know how or why, I've done nothing different, but now it works.

Also sorted out the network problems,
my ADSL modem had also taken a belt from the psu from the old PC.

Once i changed the modem everything was up and running straight away.

Now to request an extension for my degree
