Active Sun and huge sunspots AR1339
« on: Nov 09, 2011, 16:52:55 »
I've been wanting to catch these enormous sunspots for the last few days, and just managed a small break in the clouds today before the Sun disappeared behind the trees.

They have already produced C and M class flares.

ED120, 13 subs with DSLR 450D on ED120, Baader solar filter.
Stacked in Registax (which seems to have stacked the disc slightly offset but I tried it again and it did it again).
I have put a rough comparison of Earth in the 4 o'clock position.  Earth fits inside the umbra of the largest spot.

Great image Carole, and it's good to see someone putting a scale to the sun spots. Trying sometimes to explain the size of these is hard to people who don't realise the scale but this greatly helps.  ;)

Well done &

nice capture.
Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
