"Chinese lanterns released into the air at outdoor events such as weddings are killing livestock, farmers say.

The paper lanterns with candles inside can float for several miles before crashing to the ground. "

No Lanterns, No Lasers, No Fireworks after a certain time, No experiments (public site).

Bloody 'ell, we'll only be able to observe and image at DSC shortly, unless they ban that as well, citing some new privacy act banning you from looking into the sky in case you interupt the mating of the 'Great Crested Wobbling Cotton Tailed Flying Miniature Platypus' which only mate above astronomers in the south of England after the hours of darkness.
I remember seeing J. Clarkson with an alleged road kill on their trip to America on Top Gear...............I wonder if that had been hit by a chinese lantern?

The Thing

Are they origami cows or something? How can a khoom fey thingy kill livestock? They must be paper thin or extremely inflammable.

It seems the problem is actually with bits of wire getting into silage, and these lanterns apparently sometimes include bits of wire in their construction. If they come down in a field which is subsequently cut for silage then the bits of wire may end up in the silage. I suspect there are plenty of other less improbable ways the silage might get bits of wire in it, though...

It was probably a slow news day, and some journalist needed something to fill a blank page...

If cows are stupid enough to eat wire they deserve to be turned into steak
