Redshift Record Smashed Again - Galaxy at z10

Possible portion of a galaxy with a redshift of 10 (z10) has been discovered by Roser Pello (Midi Observatory, Pyrenees, France) and four colleagues with the VLT and the help of a galactic cluster which gravitationaly lensed the object.

A z of 10 takes us back to within 450 Million years after the universe was born, only 150Million years after matter and radiation cooled suffiviently for the universe to be transparent.

We may see more Z10 and Z11 galaxies once the Hubble Ultra deep field is released to the public next tuesday.
