I posted a query on the Eclipse forum on http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/ asking about the ping-pong we've been seeing between 212.104.128.98 and 102.104.128.101.

Jon the Eclipse guy's reply went thus:

"Generally if a trace starts to bounce between two IP's and one of those is 212.104.128.98 it means that the connection is actually not up, they have logged off etc.

"If you try and ping his router you will probably find that it comes back with a 'TTL expired in transit' message, again a sign that the connection is down."

That does seem a slightly strange behaviour. I'd have expected "host unreachable" but I havn't tested my system to see what happens when it is offline...

Ian, was your router offline yesterday and today?
